This album was just a studio get-together until the unexpected success of "Senor Blues" drafted Horace Silver into being a band leader. Donald Byrd, Hank Mobley, Doug Watkins and Louis Hayes complete the group. Other great Silver originals here include "Cool Eyes" and "Shirl." Added to the original album are the alternate take of "Senor Blues" used for the 45 single release and the 1958 vocal version of "Senor Blues" with Bill Henderson. The package includes photos from the actual session. |
