Review 1
SPINACH music is future music. A future where jungle is pop and rock is trance, where dubs are hooks and lyrics are mantras. Infusing an intense rock lineup with loops, synths, turntables, and other mystical gadgetries, SPINACH pushes eclectic pop into a vital, flowing, ecstatic groove. DJ culture has gone live.
With members from New York, California and Paris, SPINACH music is international in it’s appeal, very Los Angeles at heart (headquarters), and always searching for new ground.. Their debut release, “We Ventured…and We Won”, is named after a dub from a NASA educational record that is used on the first track. And the samples just keep piling up, from Confucius to Richard Simmons, over 55 seamless minutes of music, each song mixing into the next. With the BPM starting at 100 (the happy hippie trip-hop of “Into the Sun”) and gradually pushing up to 160 (the go-go rock/jungle of “Crashing Car”), the 11-song collection plays like a DJ set.
