As in Volume 1 (OJCCD-740-2) of this collaboration of swing-masters, the repertoire is made up of the best of 40 years of the Basie book. From the lilt of “9:20 Special” to the sentiment of “I’ll Always Be in Love with You,” the partnership of Jackson and Basie produced intensity of swing and feeling in all moods and all tempos. The album includes notable performances of Eddie Durham and Basie’s “Every Tub” and Quincy Jones’s “Lena and Lenny,” classics revived from Basie bands of the 1930s and 1960s. |
