Review 1
With this thoughtful and stimulating CD, trumpeter John McNeil returns to SteepleChase after an absence of some 17 years. In the seven SteepleChase albums he made during the days of vinyl, John was revealed as a gifts soloist and writer. Many listeners will recall his memorable collaborations with fellow trumpeter Tom Harrell and saxophonist Dave Liebman. Eight of the ten tunes on this CDs are original compositions by McNeil and/or Chase and include a beautiful rendition of one of John's older compositions "Faun". Featuring John McNeil (trumpet), Allan Chase (alto/baritone saxophone), John Sullivan (bass), Eric Thompson (drums). |
