Review 1
Featuring Marc Copeland (piano) and Tim Haggans (trumpet, fluglehorn). Copeland and Hagans have been playing together off and on for the better part of two decades. In this duo setting Copeland gets a chance to showcase his penchant for deconstructing and personalizing a tune in much the way of his mentor Lennie Tristano. Hagans, considered by many on the New York scene to be "a young lion" puts his own stamp on tunes like Thad Jones' "Three and One" and of course his own composition "Passing Giants". In this recording they also uniquely interpret seven other great tunes ranging from Shorter's "Nefertiti" to Gershwin's "I Loves You Porgy". |
