Review 1
The Haitian born pianist Andrew Hill recorded seven highly acclaimed albums for Blue Note in the mid-60s and became something of a cult legend. But in 1969 he withdrew from the recording and performing scene as a jazz musician and took up a post as composer in residence at Colgate University and later at the Smithsonian. This 1974 recording for SteepleChase is the first one in his five-year break from the jazz scene and the first ever trio recording which was enthusiastically received by critics and his followers.
" The SteepleChase Invitation may be one of Hill's most personal recorded legacies..." (Bay State Banner)
" ...a very fine release, ...an invitation that all readers should take up." (Jazz Journal) |
