Review 1
The history of SteepleChase cannot be told without Dexter Gordon who had spent the prime-time of his life in Copenhagen playing night after night at the packed Jazzhus Montmartre. This is the first of the many studio recordings Dexter made for SteepleChase with his "home" rhythm group at the height of his career.
Long Tall Dexter or Big Dex, as many people remember him fondly, was the first man to apply be-bop on tenor sax and left tremendous influence on the generations to come. As the Jazz Journal puts it, this album is "all strong meat - one of the tenor albums of the year, made possible by recording a working group at the height of its powers". |
