Tenor saxophonist Gregory Tardy's first offering on J Curve Records, showcases the leader's formidable writing chops as well as his mature concepts and command of his instrument. His tunes range from from modern, searching works to a lovely waltz to a smoking neo-bop piece. The disc also features a wide variety of textures and colors including a tenor/bass duet on I Only Have Eyes For You. His lyrical title cut features an opening thematic statement by Nicholas Payton on flugelhorn, (who also plays trumpet on 2 selections). Alto saxophonists Antonio Hart gives a highly spirited performance on Tardy's neo-boppish Second Wave (Pooh's Paradigm) where the two saxophonists trade highly energized solo statements.
