Review 1
For George: Tribute to a Master (In memory of George Van Eps) by jazz guitarist Kenny Poole marks the debut of J Curve Record's Tribute Series. Kenny Poole has long had a strong musical reputation in the Midwest, but it is only recently that his fame has been spreading further due to his association with J Curve.
Kenny Poole discovered the music of George Van Eps when he was sixteen, and it was a major turning point in his life. Although he is not a household name, George Van Eps, who invented the seven string guitar, is widely acknowledged among jazz guitar enthusiasts to be one of the greatest guitarists of all time.
Tribute to a Master features Kenny Poole playing solo guitar on ten of the tracks and accompanied by drummer, John Von Ohlen and vibist, Dick Sisto on the remaining five tracks. The selections on the CD were songs either performed or admired by Mr. Van Eps as a fitting tribute to him. While sure to be a classic among jazz guitar fans, For George:Tribute to a Master will be appreciated by anyone who loves good music. |
